4th-6th Grade Ministry Director

EastLake Church (Chula Vista, CA)

Do you love high-energy games, deep questions, and the awkward-awesome world of preteens? We’re looking for a 4th–6th Grade Ministry Director who can bring enthusiasm, creativity, and strong leadership to a ministry designed just for them.

This role requires someone who can balance fun and structure, cultivate a safe and welcoming environment, and guide preteens toward a growing relationship with Christ. If you can lead with confidence, build strong volunteer teams, and connect authentically with students and families, we would love to meet you.

Reports to: Kids Ministry Pastor
Level: $19.00/ hr

Hours:

20 to 25 hours a week

Sunday 7:30am-2:30pm

Monday Off

Tuesday 9:00am – 2:00pm 

Wednesday 9:00am – 2:00 pm   

Thursday 5:30pm – 8:30pm for COT/Rooted Season. TBD During Non-COT Season

 Friday Off     

 Saturday Off

*Expect exceptions to schedule as a Ministry Director.

* Some flex (as agreed upon by supervisor) but primarily on-site during work hours.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports directly to the Kid’s Pastor - employee must seek authorization for broad scope of tasks.

SCOPE & DIMENSIONS:

Builds trusted relationships with parents and guardians, fostering strong partnerships in the spiritual development of their children while serving as a consistent and reliable point of connection between families and the church. Demonstrates a team-first mindset, recognizing that healthy collaboration, open communication, and mutual support among staff and volunteers are essential to maintaining a unified, mission-driven church environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Service Management: Manage assigned ministry rooms and volunteers during our service experiences on Thursdays and Sundays to ensure a smooth and effective operation.
  2. Leadership: Recruit, train, and lead ministry volunteers (small group leaders, teachers, tech leaders, etc.), providing ongoing support and development to maintain a strong volunteer team.
  3. Discipleship: Provide care for volunteers and families within the 4th – 6th Grade Ministry, fostering spiritual growth and a sense of community.
  4. Parent Partnership: Engage and collaborate with parents to support their children’s spiritual development, providing resources, communication, and opportunities for involvement.
  5. Curriculum Development: Create, edit, and prepare the necessary curriculum for the 4th – 6th Grade Ministry, ensuring it is engaging, age-appropriate, and aligns with the church’s mission and values.
  6. Supply Management: Purchase and prepare the necessary elements and supplies for weekend services to ensure all materials are ready and available for effective ministry within budget.
  7. Administrative Tasks: Complete the assigned administrative tasks and weekly ministry requirements, including leader scheduling, leader assimilation, and maintaining accurate records.
  8. Policy Enforcement: Ensure all Eastlake Kids Ministry Policies and Procedures are followed to maintain a safe and secure environment for children and volunteers.
  9. Event Assistance: Assist with designated EastLake Kids Ministry events, contributing to planning, attending, execution, and follow-up activities.
  10. Meeting Participation: Attend designated weekly ministry and staff meetings to collaborate with team members and stay informed about church-wide initiatives and updates.
  11. Super Sixth Growth Group: Manages the 6th graders discipleship program, including curriculum development, supply coordination, leader recruitment and training, and promotional activities. Shift in hours will be discussed in advanced with supervisor.
  12. Support Kid’s Ministry Pastor: Assist the Kid’s Ministry Pastor with assigned responsibilities, providing additional support and leadership as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a committed follower of Jesus Christ, with a personal relationship demonstrated through consistent lifestyle, character, and active participation in a local church.
  • Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated experience building, recruiting, and developing teams — whether in ministry, nonprofit, education, or other organizational settings. Ability to identify, invite, onboard, and equip individuals to serve effectively within a shared mission.
  • Skilled in creating systems and processes for team engagement, training, communication, and ongoing development. Able to cultivate ownership, accountability, and enthusiasm among team members.
  • Proven ability to foster a culture where volunteers or team members feel valued, connected, and inspired by a greater purpose.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • General audio/visual knowledge preferred.
  • CPR/First-Aid Certification preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to actively engage with young children in classroom and activity settings, including sitting on the floor, kneeling, bending, and moving quickly when needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry ministry supplies, equipment, or small children up to approximately 25–35 pounds.
  • Ability to set up and tear down classroom environments, including moving tables, chairs, and activity materials.
  • Frequent standing and walking during ministry programs and events.
  • Ability to work in environments that may be loud, energetic, and fast-paced.
  • Comfortable working in indoor and occasional outdoor settings, depending on programming needs.
  • Availability to work weekends (especially Sundays), special events, and occasional evenings.

  • As a staff person at Eastlake Community Church, I agree to abide by all the provisions of the Employee Handbook.
  • The Church reserves the right, at any time, with or without notice, to alter or change job responsibilities, reassign or transfer job positions, or assign additional job responsibilities.
  • This position is classified by the Church as a Part-Time paid position and is Non-Exempt from the overtime provisions, as stated in Employee Handbook.
